Hello all!
Just curious if any of you have experience with the P1098 code? I’ve only found limited information here on the forum, however I did seem to find additional info on other various websites regarding the code.
Yesterday night, after start up, the CEL illuminated. Called onstar and they sent me my diagnostic report which indicated the P1098 code was present. No additional symptoms at this time. After some research it seems this is an issue with the coolant control valve. There’s a bulletin on it stating a software update could cure it, but from what I read this never seems to solve the issue.
I plan to call the dealership today, however my Yukon is a 2021 with 55k miles on it. I’m a little worried from what I read that this particular problem isn’t covered under the power train warranty.. and potentially cost $2-$3k to fix, yikes!
This sounds like it’s a common issue now with these LM2s, and is a result of poor manufacturing. So unfortunate.
Moreover, I’m curious if any of you experienced this issue and if the dealer covered under the powertrain warranty?

I had this code pop up today on my 2022 Yukon XL 3.0L - 77K miles. I had to continue driving about 20 minutes in order to get home. Trans temp was about 190, which seemed a bit high, but not crazy. Engine Temp stayed the same. No problems, other than the limp mode / reduced acceleration - was able to get on the freeway, which was the only way home.

Pulled the code - P1098 - and then found the coolant reservoir low, but not empty.

Has anyone experienced this being an issue of low coolant?

I documented it, reset the code and filled the coolant. Will keep any eye on it, but wondered if others have seen this.

You might as well plan on getting it into your dealer. The coolant control valve is or will imminently fail. It is one of the 3.0's only weaknesses as this valve was made with some cheap interior parts that fail prematurely. I believe it is covered under warranty, but I've also heard some noise that they are NOT calling it part of the drivetrain here and there...

This is the truth and ultimately the case for me as well. I ended up taking mine to the dealer and had the valve replaced under powertrain warranty. My dealer gave no stink about it. But I’ve heard others saying their dealer did not want to cover under powertrain, which is a load. If this ends up being the case you’ll have to fight them or simply go to another dealer.

~~I never had the low coolant problem though. I vaguely remember reading somewhere about low coolant being the culprit of a P1098 code.. but if that’s the case.. where the heck did the coolant go? Do you have a leak?

I haven't noticed a leak. Maybe it has always been low? I will report back as I put some miles on it and see if the code comes back.
