After your first sand you'll want a coat or two of adhesion promoter. You can get it at autozone or any other auto parts store. Otherwise you paint may not stick real well. Also, after sanding be sure and clean the area to be painted really well. Any contaminents will also adversely affect your paint....

Wet sand using 800-1000 grit and dawn soap or something similar mixed with running water. 3-4 light coats or adhesion promoter then sand using 1000 grit or so. Spray 4-5 light coats of color, then 3-4 light coats of clear, then wet sand with 2000-2500 grit then polish to get your shine on!

Lol, this is how I've always done mine. I've sprayed my current emblem 3 times, the one on the Blazer 2 times, and the one on my old Silverado 2 times. I've never had one chip.

Is it the stock plastic emblem or is it after market metal? If it plastic after sand for sure use adhesion promoter, if it metal (aluminum) and not chromed primer is fine. Then finish off like the rest have said.
