I have heard that a Self Etching Primer Works...Or Use Muriatic Acid to completley strip the chrome off. I think it needs to be de magnetized?

I did mine following the directions from the link below and it's been holding up...would recommend extra clear coat definitely for the front end. and what it doesn't say, I sanded it with, i think 400 grit afterwards to get rid of the orange peel look. Mine's held up so far and I did it in June or July

My friend painted mine just this afternoon. Red scotchbrite and PPG's epoxy/primer DP9. I believe DP9 is the correct name. Anyway, all that was needed was to scuff with the scotchbrite and clean the bumper with wax and grease remover and a tack cloth. Then he sprayed it and waited for it to flash then sprayed base and clear. DP9 is what they use at the hot rod shop he works for to paint their wheels, etc. It is pricey though.

I would recommend having a shop do it..because colored chrome looks sooooooo bad ass!!! much better then being stripped then painted


Or..however they get the colored chrome
