Has anybody here ever painted their chrome u255's spokes black and leave the lip chrome? I love the look of the Boss 330 wheels but always hated the polsihed lip so I bought a set of U255's and wanted to have the spokes painted black. I talked to a body shop and he thought the paint wouldn't hold up long at all. Just wanted to have a few other opinions on whether he's right or not. He does good work and trust worthy but do not want to ruin the wheels if it doesn't work out.

I tried plastidip but it kept bonding to the tape and pulling the dip off the spokes. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would love to have them painted ASAP.

Thanks!

Actually tried that after the last coat and it still was pulling the dip.

Considered that too but could possibly have them painted cheaper than vinyl by the time I paid for labor.

It will be very hard to paint with out sand blasting them. And you can't return them back. I just blasted my chrome rims and painted them black. My chrome was no good. But yours looks good. I would wrap it. Stronger than paint if you use a good vinyl. I already have a few chips. I don't know from where. And I used acrylic paint for the strength too

for plasti to do a tape line you cant do the normal "light coat method" you would need to do the center but stay away from the tape line. then on your last coat go down to the tape line and do a heavy coat. pull the tape as soon as you can and it should dry with a nice clean line. I would practice on a flat surface before trying a wheel!

If plastic dip take a razor at the tape line and score it before pulling tape off. Pull slow and have your razor ready to score/cut tape line more if needed.... But as others said I would just wrap it gloss black vinyl

I gave plastidip another try yesterday. I done 3 coats and added another wet coat by the tape line and it pulled away much better!

May do the other 3 today and run plastidip untill I can find somebody to paint or wrap them.
