Okay so, I have an 06' black Yukon Denali XL. And I've seen some Yukon and Tahoe guys paint their engine covers the color of their truck. Well, since my truck is black, and the engine cover is that black, rough plastic, it would be pointless. I have a chrome K&N full intake, and was wondering how hard it would be to sand the covers down, and paint them with some chrome paint. My other option would be to get them chromed.

What's the procedure for painting the cover, let alone using chrome paint? clean the cover, sand it, fill it with body filler, sand it, prime the hell out of it, paint it a high gloss white, and then chrome, and then a few cans of clear? I wouldn't mind the long process if the end result will really look like chrome. If anyone knows about chrome paint, or has done this before, let me know.

Also, I don't know of anywhere that does chrome dipping in my area, but if it's relatively cheap, and I find some where, I might just take that route.

Honestly, A chrome engine cover wouldn't really look that good, In my opinion. Then again it's just an opinion. I think if you were to sand it with 600 grit sand paper, then 800, 1000 and final 2000. If your gonna add body filler, Use putty. Then sand the putty down with the same process. Until you find it smooth. Then go with a really nice glossy black. Wash your engine, Maybe paint your CAI the same color and it'll look really clean on a black truck. Again it's just my opinion, I'm not a body-men or nothing but it's the experience I have. I know nothing about chrome paint's though. Tbh.:Handshake:

Thanks for the advice man, I might just leave well enough alone, but maybe the cover would look nice painted gloss black.

Yea, just paint it a glossy black. It would look way better than the raw black plastic. Gonna paint mine soon.

I used some cheap spray paint from Wal-Mart and mine turned out like crap. I'll re do mine soon and clean it up. Mine's flat black which I think would look cool.

I did mine back in the day. Make sure you sand it down a bit before painting.
