Painting stock wheels and front grill surround.

I know I might get some flack for this but I really want to black out my Denali. Right now I still have the nbs stock 17s with center cap that I want to black out and I've seen some plasti dipped wheels and they look alright but I'm just concerned about durability and straches. Does anyone recommend any products and procedures that yield the best results? I also want to black out the chrome grill surround but also need some recommendations for that. Just concerned about adhesion on both things due to the chrome plateing. Some knowledgeable advise would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my stock 16's plasti dipped for 3 years and through 3 northeast winters it held up fine. No clear coat needed. Several light coats to make removal easy if needed. I'm pretty sure you could dip the grill as well but not sure about the process but I think it would stick fine.

Ok thanks. I've just never used plastidip before and didn't know if it was like spray paint and it wouldn't stick to smooth surfaces or if I would have to sand the chrome

Plastidip works fine with all surfaces, it all has to do with prep work. Scuff the "chrome" platting and clean the grill real good with no oil or residue and you should be good. Iv seen some friends even do just some good cleaning and painted emblems, grills and wheels. If you do go with plastidip its also good to have a good warm day or controlled temp environment. You don't want the surfaces too cold or too hot, the spray will not attach or dry right. Plastidip is also pretty durable, not sure what kinds of driving conditions you live in but for the most part its good to go. If you go muddin and all that kinds of craziness don't expect it to be flawless. It is also very easy to touch up and remove if you don't like. Good luck.

I plastidipped my sonata wheels and it was just OK. Peeled it off and primed, painted and cleared them with duplicolor wheel paint from the auto store. 10x better.

I was thinking about Plastidipping my wheels black too. I decided to use the graphite Duplicolor wheel paint. I have aftermarket WELD wheels that never saw a car wash before I bought the truck lol.
They are cast aluminum with no clear coat and had HEAVY brake dust buildup so bad I had to use Easy Off oven cleaner on them to get it off.
Now I just need to get a nice enough day to sand and paint.

I too was concerned about longevity with the plastidip.
The good thing about Plastidip? If you do scuff your wheels on something just spray right over the mark after cleaning. It will look unharmed after that.

I would at at least scuff the chrome if tou are sure you want that look.
Ive had friends that didnt even clean what they wanted to plastidip and its held up fine.
I have the same concerns so I went with wheel paint instead. The dip should be fine for normal driving though.

plastic dipped both grill rear bumper and rims black and it has held up for 3 years. another nice thing with plastic dip is if u got a scuff you can just do light coats in that area and the paint will self level. I posted two pics ones not as great but it will give u an idea. The best part is it is all removable
