Anybody done this with some pics and how to best disconnect the cables to run them above the axle instead of slung underneath?

Yes I did it on my Denali. Disconnect each line where it meets single line on drivers side frame rail. Pull each cable forward and slide through opening in joint piece. Route each on top of axle and zip tie to secure excess movement. Reconnect back to joint piece. Don't have any pics of it at the moment.

That's exactly what I was asking for. Wasn't sure what ends to disconnect. Do I need to loosen everything, or can I just pull on them to release them?

Don't need to loosen anything just use some pliers or vice grips to pull the cable forward. Once you get one disconnected the other doesn't need to be pulled. Same way going back together need to drop one in then pull the other to get through hole. Here's a pic of cables routed on top of axle (not my lift or why he ran one cable through the coil spring but for example)
