So I've decided to finally fix my parking brakes that haven't worked in years while I'm doing a brake job. I have a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali.

So far I replaces both side actuators and put in new brake shoes. In the middle of installing one side only, my stupid self went to test if the parking brake held up and the cable snapped due to it being old and worn

The cable snapped right where the equalizer is but I replaced the ones by the pedal and the hub anyway. My problem is the cables I bought from the local parts store all fit but the intermediate cable with the equalizer doesnt have the adjustable stud and nut like the original one I took off. They guarantee that this cable is compatible with my truck but when I installed it, the cable slacks and when the pedal is pressed it gains tension but not enough to actually move the acuator.

I was real confident in fixing this problem as I never did a job like this before but now I'm not really sure what to do, any suggestions?

The part number of the cable is BCA660195 and according to Advance Auto, it fits my truck. Other part stores have the same cable but it looks like the same one I just bought. Think I should go to the dealer for this? I usually don't ever go to the dealer for parts.

Sounds like the wrong cable. I’d go to dealer if you can’t find the right one elsewhere.

So I just took everything back out and installed it again to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong and I did.

I didnt put one of the cables in its mounting hole on the pedal assembly and on the frame mounted hole. Once I did that, the cable is now too short, figures. It's about an inch and I quarter maybe

Since the pedal cable and the actuator cables are mounted to the frame and cant be moved, should I source a new, intermediate cable, from a dealer like Sam said?

You might want to actually measure the cable you have, then measure cable at dealer at this point. Something messed up.

Did you compare the new ones to the old ones?
