Ok, I've known that the parking brakes suck in these trucks but wondered if anyone has just flat out removed it? Unsightly cables, lack of function, just doesn't hold anything.

a) is it illegal to remove it?
b) any real issues with removing it?
c) has anyone done this?
d) or...is there a way to make this work?

I have no back plate rot or anything obvious as to why it has no tension & would consider installing a new cable if it's worth it. If it'll just stop working again sometime soon why not just ditch it & clean up the underside of the truck?

Id check the linkage in the back of the pedal, if the pedal is not recoiling all the way chances are it may be a kink in the cable or possibly the outer rubber has swelled down on the cable. Is it sticking for sure or is the light just on indicating the p/b is on?

No lights...just whenever I apply the brake, the indicator does come on, but there is no holding power. I hoped under the truck & the adjuster is maxed.

Seems like this is a really common issue...
