My friend noticed last night that water was dripping on her leg on the passenger side dash.

A little back history. I think I need a new blower motor resistor because at a certain speed or temperature the dash AC stops working. All other AC works. AC works fine on started up and for around 20-30 then sounds like it's plugged. Was told I need a new blower motor resistor.

But the water drip is new. I removed the cover under the dash and water was dripping under the large plastic housing.

Any ideas? The drainage plug under the front passenger side seems clear.

Do you have a sunroof? there are drain holes on each front side edge, if the drain hole is plugged up it could cause water to drain inside, like if you went thru a car wash or something. if this is the case you could try some weed whacker trimmer line and poke it down the hole carefully to hopefully clear out any obstruction.
if the heatercore was leaking the liquid would be coolant, not just plain water.
other causes could be a poor windshield seal which is actually semi-common.
OR a bad body sealed between the front engine firewall and body.

too access the sunroof drain holes you would need to open the sunroof and get up top and you will see the small holes on the left & right forward corner edge inside

Thanks! I'll check the sunroof. On occasion, the AC does smell like mildew but not all the time.

mildewy smell is from condensation inside the hvac, unless you get a crazy amount of condensation where you live then it's probably unrelated

Drains on sunroof are clear and the surround bone dry. I replaced the resistor so will see if it happens again.

you might try taking a garden hose and hang it over the roof over the passenger side top of windshield and let it run, then go around the drivers side and lean over to the passenger side and watch and see it starts dripping or use some paper towels. or drive thru a car wash and place some paper towels on the floor of the passenger side and see if it gets wet.

these types of leaks can be hard to pinpoint

The dripping happened when the car was 100% dry. It was super humid out so it makes me think it was condensation.

The HVAC system can leak when the water is condensed out of the air. Check the vent on the firewall by the accumulator. It's a little black dingus somewhere in that vicinity.

The other problem could be leaky components inside the truck. I had this happen on the one POS 2009 Denali I bought from TX. Pissed me off to always have wet carpet and water dripping on both sides after a long, humid, drive. I blew out the drain and I believe it helped.

Smell of mildew is an indicator it's not drying out well enough.
