Noticed the other week a tear in boot of the driver's side cv axle boot. These are pretty inexpensive and easy to installed, so ordered one from Rockauto.

I put in on yesterday and took a drive (see pic). The band clamp one outer boot came right off. Grease everywhere.

This might not be a defective part issue, although I'm returning and ordering form a local parts store. The band clamps are the pinch type, while the OEM clamp has no pinch. I think the pinch might have hit the bolt on lower control arm and got knocked off.

Anyone with a NNBS, have this issue?

So you just replaced the boot and not the whole CV axle?

I've never replaced the boot. Anytime I've seen a tear, it was about time to get new CV's so I just did the whole thing...

Replaced whole axle, boots, clamps, grease factory installed, just take old one out, put in new one.

How is it not a defective part issue? You do something to it on install? I had one rip, ordered from rockauto too. No probs. Those pinch clamps will do the job just fine. Maybe it wasn't seated right...the ones they sell are rebuilds no?

I think it is new part. I guess a defective design for Yukon. When I take it off tomorrow I'll try to confirm if the pinch in the clamp hit something, or if it was just clamped poorly.

Pic of the freshly installed, then removed cv axle. What a mess! Put another new one one today, got from a local Napa. A rebuilt unit and the outer band has a pinch also, but after install, I don't see any clearance issues. The Cardone axle from RockAuto just had a loose band, I guess.

Getting a refund from Rockauto.
