Went to the local NAPA auto today to pick up some sprak plugs for my 1997 5.7 Tahoe. I asked them to give me whatever is OEM. They told me AC Delco double platinums at over 7 dollars apiece!!! I then asked them to give me the price of a "regular" spark plug and they said "awe man you don't want to do that cause those platinum Delcos are OEM spec". Even the Autolite platinum spark plugs were $5 dollar plus apiece!!

So my question is....Can I just run regular spark plugs in my OBS 5.7 Hoe and similar or do I need to pony up for the plartinum versions to keep my Hoe and motor happy? Or was I given a bunch of BS so they could take all my money?

P.S>,, I did a search for "spark plugs" here and I did not see adequate information. So I thought I would ask.

Thank-you for your help/replies.

You can run whatever you like. The platinums are nice for an N/A motor and they are able to last up to 100k......I haven't done it personally but others have. I changed my plugs at 90k for NGK TR6 plugs due to being supercharged.

Just don't run E3 plugs....according to others on the board they are complete crap.

I've actually heard good things about E3, here and on FSC. You can run whatever you want, brother did a tune up in his 99 with Autolites and cheaper spark plug wires and his 'Hoe runs great. In my 95 I am running Delco Platinum and MSD wires and it also runs great I would just stick to AC Delco, NGK or E3s, all these run great in our trucks.

There are a lot of vehicles out there that you, for the most part, have to use OE matching plugs when you do a tune.

For example, the NBS & NNBS, if you do not use the irridium, they can start to sputter and misfire like crazy.

I went against recommendations and used AC RapidFire plugs in mine, and to be honest, Ive had to swap out 4 plugs on seperate ocassions. When I tune it again Im going back to AC Platinums.
