Playlists on USB thumb drive???

I have a 2015 Tahoe, LTZ. It has the stock "MyLink" radio.

When I browse, it gives me options for Artist, songs, playlists, etc... I'd like to create playlists so I don't have to insert a different thumb drive for each playlist, but I don't see how to do so.

First and only attempt, was to create folders on the thumb drive, but still all tracks were grouped together.

Ideas? Is this only for use with mp3 players, like iPods?

The format M3U seems that it will do the trick. I can export the playlist format from iTunes, but will have to edit the file path.
