I have been looking for front brake components I.E. calipers rotors and pads. When I look up the pads I always get the option of wether the vehicle is a "police" version or is not.

I am assuming the police brakes must be better or something. What is different with the police issued OBS tahoe brakes? Are any parts interchangeable? Thanks

they are interchangeable, there just bigger then the normal tahoes. they might just be suburban calipers, but i have no idea.. you could probably buy the calipers at murrays or the local autostore

^^^larger is the winner. I was given brake pads with a P in the serial number...I had no idea and went to put them on. They are larger diameter and also a thicker pad to last longer

Thanks for the replies. As I look up information about the police brake package I find out the police rear drums are 11" and the standard rear drums are 10".

I am still unsure about the front brake rotors though. Are the front rotors a larger diameter too?

With our OBS trucks having such poor performing brakes, Has anyone done this brake swap before? It would seem like a easy thing to do and cost effective.

havent done the police upgrade nor anything else. but look into Stainless steel lines and new brake fluid. Brake fluid with 3%moisture can increase the stopping distance up to 50percent. being said, id change out the lines and new brake fluid. See if that helps, also Hawk brake pads are pretty good.

Hey guys, sorry to dig this one up but I'm seeking a difinitive answer from anyone that can provide it: Are the police pkg calipers a bolt on replacement for standard 4WD 2Dr Tahoe calipers?

I saw another thread ( See thread here ) some place where it was stated you may need a new spindle and/or control arm. In all the pictures they look to be very similar except for piston size.

Does the larger size mean you need larger wheels? I read here that when a NBS goes to 2007 brake parts that they bolt on but are larger and therefore needs 17" wheels.

Obvious bigger piston and beefier/bigger caliper housing for larger pads. That is why I was thinking I remember that the larger upgrade for the 2000-2006 to 2007 brakes needs the bigger wheels from 16" to 17".

If anyone wants a set of Hawk SD super duty pads for the police issue calipers and rotors, hit me up. I'll send them to you. I bought a set many years ago from Amazon not realizing they wouldn't fit my 1998 2 door Tahoe. I had to grind off half a rivot head on the back of one side of the pad to get them on my rig. After I installed them, I realized that the pads were way bigger than my stock rotors. Sometime I do stupid bone head shit...
