Just curious if anyone is running the 5" rear drop without a hardware kit/relocation brackets on the trailing arms. I'm more interested in the trailing arm brackets, how they affect the ride and if they're totally necessary for a 5" rear drop. I can fabricate a custom adjustable sway bar link very easily for less than $10.00.

FWIW, I've already done the free travel mod on mine before I install the drop kit.

So let's hear your opinions guys....

i dont have the kit all i have is shock extenders and im well over a 5" drop...62d33afe.gif

I wouldn't say it's 100% necessary. I know some guys that didn't run it had problems with their rear wheels contacting parts of the truck on 5+" rear drops. If I can find the threads, I'll send the links your way.

Not positive but I think most guys that are running 5" drops are using the hardware kit. Supposably without the hardware kit the truck can't "fully drop" if it doesn't have a hardware kit and possible that the short springs can fall out of place.
I have the 3/5.5 drop from Tony and I'm using the hardware kit and the short Belltech shocks.

The other option around the hardware kit is you can get the Spohn adjustable lower control arms

please look at driveshaft how much pushes into the trans with 5 inch drop when stops are cut and it bottoms out also pinion.

the swaybar gets relocated over since if you cut the brackets off the frame and do the 5 inch drop you will see how the swaybar hits the panhard bar mount when you do the shorter links.

If you make the stock links shorter (been there tried that to save money) you will see how the bar hits the frame when you hit a dip esp since you cut the bumpstop brackets off the frame.

My pinion angle is fine but the axle not being centered in the wheelwell does annoy me on occasion. I'll build or buy some adjustable arms at some point but they aren't critical :imo: Be sure to get an adjustable panhard though.

So you're saying the geometry of how the rearend moves when lowered, pushes the trans yoke/drivline into the trans. So the remedy is to get adj lower control arms or get the brackets? Does DJM (or anyone for that matter) sell just the relocation brackets? It would help alot if I could actually see a picture of how the brackets mount to the truck. I'm not opposed to fabricating the LCA brackets or adj arms. I fabbed up the adj LCA brackets on my 4th gen Z28.
