So just finished up the DOD delete on my 2014 PPV Tahoe. It started after a few extra seconds than normal and ran but it now has a loud ‘clank’ noise coming from the drivers side of the engine. I’m worried that it’s valve to piston contact in cylinder one since that is the general area the sound is coming from. It acted like it didn’t want to go during my test drive. I’d stop at a stop sign then have my foot to the floor trying to get some exceleration from it and barely be going 15 mph. It also seems to have trouble starting now since the test drive some times taking several attempts or taking longer than normal to start. I did see on another forum where a guy had similar issues after his DOD delete and it ended up being that the Cam Phaser wasn’t properly aligned with the Cam. Any ideas would be helpful. I’m desperate to get my truck running smooth again.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I only know VVT from the book side of things.

I would be inclined not to run it until I had the problem identified, clanking sounds are not good.

Has it produced any DTC codes?

I deleted the DOD/AFM and VVT before it started making scary noises. I had a light lifter tick on cylinder 6......so I tore it down and rebuild everything minus the SBE.

What did you actually replace, we're going to need your parts list to start

Did you correctly set the timing?
Are you getting any DTC?
Whats your oil pressure readings cold and hot?
Has your truck been tuned since the DoD/AFM delete?

We need alot more information to attempt to provide you with a diagnosis over the interwebs.

I did my DOD/AFM and VVT delete about a year ago and its been amazing, I actually get better MPGs w/o that $hit and tuning

Ugh...I had a similar problem after my first attempt at the cam swap. Turned out to be a failed lifter that started wiping the cam, but we never determined the true cause. Sounded like a loud chirp when it was running but the engine made great power. Must be something else happening with yours if it's not making good power. I agree with the others here - time to tear it down. I'm feeling your pain, brother!

Did everyone soak their new lifters in an oil bath/tub before the install?

I dropped my new LS7 lifters in oil jug with fresh oil for 48 hrs before reassembly

Sure did. Though notably, some of the guys on the ls1tech forums recommend not soaking them and instead just dropping them in oil right before install. No idea why.

Yeah I was brought up and taught to soak them.

I have seen the method you speak of and I've seen some just apply oil to the rollers and the pushrod cups.

I can't imagine soaking the lifters in an oil bath for 24 hrs, 48 hrs, whatever could be a negative. In the end, getting everything primed before the first fire is the most important thing, I think.

I used a L9H factory cam, morel 7717 lifters, Acdelco trays, new acdelco crank sprocket, timing chain tensioner, cam phaser, and cam phaser actuator bolt, cloyes timing chain, stock push rods and rocker arms, .550 max lift springs, new high pressure melling oil pump and melling pick up tube, and every gasket replaced with a flepro. I did pre soak my lifters and they soaked for a good 3 days before install. Didn’t intend for that but I couldn’t help my work schedule.
