For the years I'm looking at, 2007-2011, what really do you get with a Z71 package that you can't get as options on other models? Can I simply buy a Tahoe with G80 locker, add skid plates, then swap out the springs/shocks and be non-cosmetically identical to a Z71 or are there other things like TC or axle gearing that are also different?

With emphasis on off roading, is there anything else I should be aware of? Year to year changes, options that I'd want to make sure I get or that should be avoided?

edit: cut out the long-winded junk - straight to the point..

On my z71 window sticker it says:

Body colored wheel flares
High capacity air filter
Off road skid plates
18 inch aluminum wheels
18 inch off road tires
Recovery hooks
Tubular assist steps
Differential, locking rear
Heavy duty trailering package
Engine oil cooler
H.d. Transmission cooler

Not sure what of all of that came with the "luxury package" or "sun, entertainment and destination" package.

I've been doing more searching, asking, etc. I googled pictures of both Z71 and non-Z71 Tahoes to look for any little appearance differences. Then I test drove a non Z71 this evening. The short answer is I don't see much difference between a Z71 and an LT with a few options. However, while a Z71 will be harder to find there doesn't seem to be much difference in price. All-in-all, I think it's worth the wait so I'm going to hold out for the right Z71.

Not that it really has a big affect on what I ultimately replace my H3T with, but the wife loved the Tahoe. No surprise, she loved our (her) old Avalanche.

Z71 has different shocks. Also can only come with leather optioned as a plain LT such as not having a rear view dimming mirror or heated/memory seats. Or there's a fully loaded Z71 which is a LT3(?) or is it 2? It is similar to an LTZ, minus the perforated cooled seats and autoride suspension with rear load leveling.
