I've tried searching Google and here on the forum and not getting very far with diagnosing the issues I'm having with my Lift Gate. It works properly about 50% of the time here recently but other times it raises about half way and reverses and re-latches. I've actually had it raise with no problem and do the same when lowering it (drops about half way then reverses and opens back up).

New Struts didn't fix it

Is it the clutch gear, the latch and some hidden electronics in it, or is the motor just starting to go bad? Costs go up in same order so I'm hoping to find someone who's dealt with similar issue to save me from testing testing the options.

Im not sure if this is it but its really common to strip out the plastic actuator gear

Look at the 6th item down on this page, they make a metal version of that actuator gear. There is also a really help youtube link showing how they got it all apart, and you can clearly see the plastic gear stripped and not working properly. I hope that helps you !

I had a perplexing problem with my lift gate, it would intermittently stop working. The dealership was not able to figure out why. I ended up stripping out the rear interior and checked all the wiring. The problem turned out to be a broken wire in a plug going to the module. Don’t know if that will help.
