Wondering if someone out there can help me with a recent issue I am having with my power liftgate. The power liftgate will not open or close without me doing it manually. When closed, if I hit the FOB to open it or grab the handle to trigger it, it pops open slightly like it unlocked and is going to open and makes the noises it should, but it won't open. It seems jammed. When open, if I hit the FOB or button on the underside of the door the lock makes a couple clicks and then if I hit the button again it will attempt to pull it down but it immediately stops like it is jammed or locked somehow. I took off the arm on the motor used to pull it down and the motor functions freely and it not bound. If I close it by hand it closes fine with no binding. I think that it thinks it is locked or is locked(when door is wide open) and won't allow it to close, which makes me think it is an electrical issue with lock. It worked just fine until I parked it for 10 days while on vacation and 1st time I went to use it, it wouldn't work.

I did confirm the manual lock button on the control panel above the driver is not on, so it isn't that. Any assistance anyone can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

mkoon,

Have you had the chance to take the vehicle to your local dealership to be diagnosed? Please keep me posted when the issue has been taken care of.

Thank you,

Two things to check; one, make sure the liftgate button on your overhead console is not rockere'd forward. That will lock the liftgate out. They stick that way sometimes.
Two, once you've pressed the release button on the hatch handle, give it a good yank. That may free the liftgate and allow you to open it. Then check for any obstructions on/near the latch loop, and inspect your latch in the door. It's spring loaded, so if it's stuck, give it a good bump and it "should" spring back to reset. I've had this happen to me with both scenarios.

I haven't taken it to the dealer because I am trying to avoid a costly expense if I can fix it myself. I have determined it is definitely a lock issue as the motor seems to spin just fine when opening and closing the gate manually and when I press the FOB or button on the door the 1st thing that happens is the lock makes a locking sound and then nothing. Not until I hit it again will it attempt to open. I wish it were still under warranty. My 3 yrs were up in November, but I have had intermittent strange electrical issues since i have owed it, so maybe they would cover it if I brought it in.

As for the overhead button, that is not on. Check it awhile ago. Something is malfunctioning with the electric lock in the lift-gate, so I may have to resort to bringing it in. If anyone else has any experience with this, please let me know.
