Hi all, I’m pretty new here but I’ve encountered a strange dilemma. I own an 05 Tahoe Z71 with a hydro boost system. About 8 months ago I replaced my power steering pump with the psc high pressure high volume pump and installed an after market trans cooler to support my power steering system. Anyway about 2 months ago I noticed I was loosing fluid. I eventually came across the idea of using UV Dye to find the leak and I noticed that it was all over the steering box, pitman arm and centerlink. What’s odd is that I seen a couple of droplets gathering at the bottom of the hydroboost cylinder. I thought that was kind of strange. Anyway I open my brake fluid reservoir and shine the light in there and everything is neon green, matching the same shade in the power steering reservoir. My question is where could they be mixing/ leaking and what would the solution be.

The obvious place they are together at is the hydro-boost assembly. I have a 2005 Z71, with a hydro-boost system. I never saw leaks or had p/s or brake problems but I knew that eventually the hydro-boost would leak, so I did the entire system, including hoses and the steering gear box, along with the master cylinder and hydro-boost. It sounds like your hydro-boost housing is cracked allowing the mixture. Or, some seals have given up the ghost that keeps the fluids separated. Also sounds like hoses or gear box or both are leaking. I have a build thread, you can look it all up, if you want to.

I have already replaced the steering gear box, it could be leaky but it would only be out of the spline area where the pitman arm attaches to it. maybe that is something else that I should look into, anyway could it also possibly be a deficiency with the abs pump. The crazy part is that steering is not affected one bit by this problem. However it’s like the brake pedal fights me sometimes. Almost like what abs would feel like. With enough pressure the brake pedal resists me and there’s a strange whine coming from somewhere in the hydroboost abs vicinity.

The fluid in your power steering/hydrpboost system cannot blend with the brake fluid in the master cylinder, if the brake fluid is contaminated with the wrong fluud it was done by human error

That is correct, the hydro boost has a piston which pushes the piston of the main brake cylinder. There is no "fluid connection" which is "separated" by sealings. The main brake cylinder is mounted on the hydro boost, there can not be a crack in a housing where fluids mix...
