Hi,

So I long story short I bought a 2013 yukon with 130k with a bad lifter. Deleted vvt and dod, new pistons, bearings etc. Put truck all back together with a reman vision ps pump. Put about 2000 miles on the truck and since I put it on the road I always had a ps groan or whine at the higher rpms 1000-1700rpm. Blamed it on a bad rebuilt pump. So I put a new gm pump on it. Same noise. Alternator is new, tensioner is new, idler is new, water pump is new. With my stethoscope i can clearly hear the noise coming from the pump. I don't see any bulletins on this issue and everyone I see with this issue posted never have a fix. Any tips would be great. I have changed quite a few pumps throughout the years and never really had an issue.

Air in the system, it needs to be properly bled.

New bad pump then is my armchair diagnosis.
Yea possibly. I have changed hundreds of pumps throughout my life and never heard one like this. Doesn't really sound like a cavitation issue. So my father in law came by tonight.. same basic truck. Had it since new never touched the power steering. It's twice as loud as mine....

GM cars have been my daily drivers since the 1980s and have had a few with pump whine, never seemed to affect the steering. Annoying though for sure!

My 2009 and 2012 both have compressor clutch noise when the AC is turned on, the '09s started in 2018 intermittently and then turned full-time. Still noisy today! AC blows cold on both.

Have you tried an additive? How old are the hoses? Restriction inside hose causing a feed problem? If two pumps make the same noise, I think the problem is elsewhere.

I had this problem on our 08 YXL Denali after a leaky pump was replaced. Then another. Ultimately changing to a higher quality, Non GM power steering fluid with more conditioners cured it. My Indy got that tip from a buddy at a dealership encountering the same issue.

now I've never done this myself, but I've been told over the years that if you want to make a ps quiet, go to Ford and by the Ford motorsports limit slip additive and put it in the pump.

no clue on the amount, I think it comes in 8oz bottles thou.

I have no idea if this actually works. but I've been told it a few times by old guys I considered good mechanics.

I thought my Indi was pulling my leg when he said he just changed the fluid. When I drove it home it was awesome. It had a new rack too and finally felt buttery smooth.
