i just replaced my oem rear rotors about 2 weeks ago and they have some surface rust on them already. I have a set of powerstop rotors and pads ready to go on the front. my question is if I should paint the non wearing parts, the hub and fins before installing? I wont be putting them on until next week and it would have enough time. but the material does appear different, im wondering if anyone who has put these on has had rusting like any other rotor?

Usually rotors have oil or other coating on them so they aren't rusty before installed, which you're supposed to clean off with brake cleaner upon installation. I guess yours don't?

It's bare metal, it's going to rust. Even if you paint them, it might delay the inevitable for some time but, it'll still rust.

I as talking about the fins and hub portion, not the wearing surface. the backs I had done just because I had a rotor crack when I was out. the front I will put on myself.

Paint the whole thing. The pads will whipe the contact areas clean and everything else will have paint on it.

There is a thread on this on here somewhere.

See this thread:

I installed these brakes and did the paint job prior to installing just like the thread says. I did the break in exactly like the company states and it wiped all the paint off the rotors. My truck sat all summer undriven in S. Florida about 1.5 miles from the ocean. Only a bit of surface rust is present on the rotor faces. That will wear away after the first couple of brake stops. The painted parts still look great. Good luck.
