Probably a stupid question, but....

I think I already know the answer, but I'm going to ask anyway.

HYPOTHETICALLY, why would a freeze plug be installed in place of the oil level sensor on the side of the oil pan?

Is it a press in or rubber swell welch plug? Is there a harness in the area?
Press in. Oil level sensor plug is present, undamaged, ziptied out of the way, and functional (other than not being plugged in).

Red Neck Repairs. May have had a leak and no sensor available and used the plug to get by and never repaired. Get a new sensor and install and plug it in and see what happens.
Kinda what my thought process was too. I suppose if the threads are damaged, I have another oil pan I can install. I'll take care of it when I change my oil again in two weeks.

Thanks for the sanity check.
