The key fob for my '07 denali starting acting up recently so I ordered a new one and a blank key off fleabay. Ive needed a spare fob and key since I lost both with my keychain about 6 months ago leaving me with only one of each. when the remote start button on the fob Ive been using since stopped working, it was time to finally order a spare set.

Anyway, I am trying to program this new 5 button remote....key word- "trying," and it is not going as planned! I know how to correctly program key fobs as Ive done a dozen times before on varius other vehicles. This time, Ive done the process 5 times over now and still no luck! :emotions122:

Here's what Ive been doing:

Get in car
Turn key to on (the position before the engine crank)
Wait for all the dash lights to go out
Press driver info button until the "relearn remote key" promt comes up on the screen
Press and hold enter/reset (the check mark button) until "learning remote key active" promt comes up
Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the new remote for 15-20 sec (or 3 minutes in this case) until the chime...or whatever it is thats supposed to happen. I wouldnt know bc it never does!

And to make things worse...I was planning on programming/learning the new remote first and then the one Ive been using immediately after (they have to be done at the same time to both work) so the new fob would be the main one I keep on my key chain and the older one would stay at home as a spare but now neither of them work!

Ive tried this process at least 5 times now, turning the key to the off/lock position each time to reset the system and enable the "learning remote key active" promt to display again. And, before anyones asks, yes, Ive replaced both batteries and checked their connectors inside the fobs. Its like the car isnt sensing the remotes at all. Is there an antenna or something that might have gone bad? But then again, the fob I was using before worked fine (except for the remote start) until now so what gives?!!

Now Im wishing I had never screwed with it bc at least before I had one fob that mostly worked. I hate when what should be the simplest task turns into a PITA! Damn key fobs :gr_guns:

I just want two working key fobs, is that so much to ask. Heck, at this point, all I want now is to be able to start my truck from my office so its warm when I get in it to drive home later. Its freezing here! Help please!

ok guess you all are stumped as well

tried again today without success...car refuses to recognize either fob even after holding the lock/unlock buttons for 5 minutes straight in "learning active" mode

taking it to the dealer when time allows...will report back

I had the same problem, and I did this, on the left side of your dash, when you open the driver door, their is a fuse panel, open it up, and look for your DSM fuse, which is a 10 Amp fuse, take it out, wait 20 sec. and put it back in. After I did that, mine started working again. Give it a try, it might help you. If you go to the dealer, they might want to charge you a diagnostic fee, in my neck of the wood, it was $98. So I told the dealer F U and did the research myself, and found this info about the DSM. Good luck.

Carolina Boy,
Did you take it to the dealer yet, or try the fix that jr stated? Keep us updated, please.

Do you ever suggest anything else other then "take it to the dealer"?????? JUST WONDERING.

I am sure you know why most of us on this forum here call it the "Stealer". And frankly, most of the times when I take my truck to the local GM Dealer, I am annoyed by the lack of knowledge, commitment, workmanship and customer service.

Bottom line for me is to do most on my own prior to taking the truck to the dealership. (Unless of course I still have a factory warranty on the vehicle).
