Programming a key fob

I have tried the instructions of "hold unlock, cycle ignition...etc....

I have two known good remotes from a friends 2002 suburban. I am trying to program them to my 2001 tahoe but after 45 minutes it wont work. I hold them for 4-5 minutes a time and i never hear the locks cycle to confirm. Anyone? I replaced the batteries, nothing, tried all kinds of combinations...nothing.

Figured it out, 2 generations of fobs. Mine are the wrong ones. Oops. need to get the part# off the receiver to get the right one according to the stealership. FML
