First off I am new to the tahoe scene and the forum and would like to thank everyone for the great posts I have already read. Now to the questions...

1) I towed my dump trailer today and when I plugged the harness into the factory plug all of the trailer lights worked however my reverse lights on the truck came on and stayed on until I unplugged it. How come?

2) The tach is not working properly. It goes up to about 2 and no further. Took the cover off the cluster and could move it by hand fine. All other gauges work fine just the tach. Thanks in advance for any input.. this is on a 2000 "new" LS

Welcome to the forums! :welcome: Unfortunately I don't know the cause/answer to either of your two questions but there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here that I am sure will be able to help.

Welcome! Check to make sure none of your wires are bare and touching on the harness and trailer. Trailers always give me trouble too. Hope you get it worked out!

First thing I will ask is if you have LEDs tails on either your truck or your trailer? I recently put LEDs tails on my truck and last week was the first time since then I had to tow my trailer, and the trailer lights would only come on really dim then my T/S would cause all truck lights to bling instead on the one direction I had on. Point being LEDs and regular bulbs don't work together so if either those has LED in it, then that may be the problem

Is the plug on the truck a factory one or does it look like someone wired one on? If factory I would say there is a wire crossed up on your trailer, like your reverse light wire is hooked up where the 12V should be! Do you have trailer brakes and do they work properly on your truck?

Thanks guys, No LEDs yet just regular old bulbs. It is the stock wiring I am gonna get the test light out today to see if the leads are crossed somehow. The trailer brakes did not seem to work quite right either. I'm gonna try to borrow a friends truck to see if maybe its something on the trailer that I just paid to have re-wired. Any thoughts on the tach though? Thats just an all the time thing, trailer or not.

This is something that bites my butt. There are several different OEM trailer wiring schemes. You'd think this would have been standardized years ago. :(

Once you ring out the wires in the socket you will have to rewire the trailer to match or make an adapter.

My '84 Sierra 7 blade is different than my '02 Tahoe. My '91 S-10 four pin is different than a Hopkins 7 to 4 adapter and my buddy's Escape 4 pin. I have 3 trailers and it's a pain to keep them straight AND be able to use rental trailers and dollies.
