you have to reset it, you can reset it anytime you want, its in you DIC go to where it shows your oil life and hold down the check button on your dash and it will reset it to 100% oil life

I know there are many threads regarding dino versus synthetic... It really depends on how hard you are on the truck and your views on maintenance. IMO not really beneficial if truck is not subjected to harsh environments/loads, or if you plan to change it out frequently (same interval).

There have also been a very few instances of hard starts with associated grinding noises that have been associated with change to synthetic. Yes no hard proof, but when switched back to dino it goes away. Thoughts on this are the tolerances with the AFM equipped motors allow the small molecule synthetic to drain back which subsequently leaves little to no oil on startup.

Just my 2 cents. IMO synthetic does have a few good benefits but just not for our engines under normal driving conditions. BTW I run synthetic on my sports coupe because I do run that engine pretty hard at high rpms.

well i changed it this morning so ill have to wait and see about the grinding noises, if thats the case for me then ill switch back, but i guess ill just wait and see. Its good info and ill keep it in mind. Besides if there is no grinding i wont have to change my oil for a year and some change since i drive about 8500 miles a year :hands:

I have heard that the oil life monitor on the DIC is based upon the type of driving you do. Personally I have never trusted such a thing. So to answer your question I use mileage and what I see, smell and touch on the dip stick.

I was lucky enough to have a lab at my disposal for a number of years so I could test oils in vehicles; there is no better way of determinig when to change oil than that.

Everyone has an opinion about oils and I respect that opinion. For me personally I base my opinion on oil analysis and my experience in being responsible for a 1364 vehicle fleet.
