My pops has the new 15 Denali, and is considering installing a hardwire for his radar detector. It's an ******, I don't have it in front of me to see what model. I know many place them by the mirror, but his has laser detection and it needs to be down low to have a chance of catching laser. I will probably power it off of the RAP in the drivers side footwell fusebox. I got that idea here. I want to know if anyone has hardwired theirs down low and if so, how did you run the cord? We want to run it through the dash, and either have the cord come out of the air vent or between the dash and the glass. :Good or Bad: How hard is removing the dash? If you know of a better or easier way to hard wire the detector low on the windshield, by all means please share. Thanks.:boti:

I have mine mounted up high - next to the rearview mirror...its out of site...not sure I would want mine mounted low where it's visible from outside the car. Mine picks up Laser just fine (it's a V1.)

Have you checked out a Blend Mount and/or a Mirrortap? Gets the power from behind the mirror....no wires to run....

I've always heard that the laser beam, at close range and operating range, the beam is only 18 inches wide and the preferred aiming locations are highly reflective locations, namely the front plate, if applicable, and the lights. Hence, the best chance of picking up a laser is low on the glass. Also, my father likes to look at it lower down, he sees it easier as it is right in his field of vision. He doesn't car about it being seen from outside, as we don't live in Virginia or DC and he just takes it off the windshield when he isn't driving and either tosses it in the glovebox or puts it in one of his other vehicles.

Also, we want to use ******'s smart cord because of the mute button.

Valentine One is the best IMO. Second to none and worth a few extra dollars. I need to get a new one and will install up around my rear curlew and wire into the power near the mirror. A V1 up by the mirror works perfectly for laser.

Great info! Anyone have info on a retained accessory power "RAP" for an '08 Tahoe?
