i am in the middle of installing some and the new rancho RS 5000 shock does not open on its own. Anyone expierince this too? Is it normal? All shocks i've ever seen extend fully on their own. Please any advice would be greatfully appreciated right now before i put them on or decide to put the factory back in.

they are suppose to do that..as long as they have resistance when extending and compressing them

those ranchos arent the gas filled ones (which causes them to automatically expand)..rancho offers an adjustable, i think its the rs9000.

ya i really don't want to cheap out with this. i want the best possible shock out there that can offer something a little stiffer for the rear. i have the torsion bars cranked about 3/4 inch and that has the front pretty stiff compared to the rear. thats why i'm thinking of going for something adjustable so i can dial in the exact ride i'm looking for.

i've considered helper bags but mostly just for added suspension while towing. don't want it to sit any higher really. it's sitting level as it is now.

The RS5000 are nice shocks. I've had them on my truck for 2 or 3 years so far and don't have any complaints. they are plenty stiff more me.
