Rear end identification tag location

hello guys im currently installing a rear end out of a 99 tahoe into my 99 escalade..i know my old rear was g4=3.73...my question is where can i find the info or the tag on the tahoe rear end? where to look for it ..any help would be appreciated..keep the negativity away

Do you have access to the VIN or the RPO sticker of the donor vehicle?

If not, if you have the complete rear axle assembly still together, you can always put a mark on the end of the axle and count how many turns of the input shaft it takes to turn the axle 1 revolution.

im gonna try that...and the vehicle was already towed to the salvage yard by the time i got it..i also was told there was a tag or numbers on the rear itself too...but i appreciate your help

there's usually a tag off one of the diff cover bolts. they are thin and flimsy so its not uncommon for them to come off. id think you would want to change the fluid in the rear diff and inspect it and not just assume its fine. if your going to sometimes the ring gear is stamped. kinda tired but theres something about counting teeth too.
