Hi - I have a 2018 Chevy Tahoe with 49K miles. Near the rear driver side tire, it just started to make a noise, like a constant air compressor or beater. Any idea what this could be? It's near the rear driver side tire area only and makes the noise as soon as you start the engine and while driving.

thanks!

If you have Auto Leveling, it’s probably your air compressor that pumps up the airbags on your rear shocks to level the vehicle.

How long does the sound last? At initial start up, should only run for a few seconds to get the vehicle up to level and to test the system. If it runs more than that you probably have an issue. Causes are usually a blown air shock that doesn’t hold air and causes the compressor to run continuously. Could be a bad relief valve on the compressor itself.

I agree, it is likely your Autoride/Autolevel compressor. Mine runs for maybe a few seconds after startup. If it is running more than that, you probably have a leak of some kind. I would look into it soon, as it will burn itself out if it is always running.

Ok so if you lie down under the driver's tire and look up you will see a compressor. IT is for the suspension system and the bushings are notoriously bad. Unfortunately they will not sell them to us but require you to purchase the entire holder. Don't do that. Just take it off and get a parts store to find some that will work.
