Stock exhaust system right now. Would love an electric cutout, any brands you recommend? Thanks

There was an extensive thread recently on exhaust cutouts. I believe that @iamdub was a major contributor to that thread.

You get what you pay for! The cheap ones leak, and I don't mean so much past the butterfly blade. That wouldn't be the worst of it. They leak through the hole that the rotating shaft goes through. This is like having a tiny pinhole leak in your system (because that's exactly what it is), so you get that wonderful sound that's very much like a failed exhaust manifold gasket.

Doug's Headers has a unique design that they claim to be 100% leak-free:

Then there's the ol' fallback/tried-and-true units from QTP:

Granatelli and BadlanzHPE have similar designs that seem to be good quality.

Thanks everyone, I went with Granatelli. Any advice with wiring it up?

I've always wondered about these, in general...

Whatever the initial build and material quality are, it seems to me that they'd carbon up and become leakers. Like the flap would become unable to completely close or open.

Anybody know?

I wondered the same. I guess it depends on how or how well your engine is tuned. Unless you welded pipe on the cutout outlet, it shouldn't be anything difficult to clean- unbolt the pipe and scrub it with a small, stiff-bristled wire brush. I'd think that by the time this happened, it/they'd have been in use for quite some time, so it shouldn't be like a quarterly maintenance item. Probably more like every year or three.

What kind did you get (model number)? Do they all come standard with a controller or is that an additional accessory?
