hey guys. I just picked up an 04 Yukon XL with 140k on the clock. Been doing the small things first, but the next things on the list are replacing the spark plugs and wires, new brakes, shocks, and then new tires. The only thing really mechanically wrong with it when I bought it was the oil pressure sending unit was going bad. I had it replaced the other day when I did the oil change and alignment.

So, here's my questions: spark plugs and wires; any to avoid completely, recommendations? I was considering buying the MSD ones and a set of the E3's to top it off. That or a set of the Bosch platinums.

The brakes I have no clue on what to get. Sticking with the stock 16' rims and tires. O Reilly's gives me a pretty decent discount. He'll I'm not even sure what the tuck has for front and rear brakes. I'm assuming rear drums and rotors in the front.

The shocks I'm most likely going to get a set of bilsteins.

For plugs I`d go with AC delco 41-110 irridium.

The stock a/c delco wires are a good so i`d stick with them. I did.

Don`t waste your money on E3`s or bosch. Our engines love the irridium a/c`s.

There is also an ngk plug that a lot of guys run here but i don`t know the part number.

For brakes i have EBC slotted rotors and hawk pads. They`re not that expensive and i noticed a little better braking over stock. I`ve had them for a few years with no problems at all.

While you`re at it clean out your throttle body and the mass air flow sensor.

I just noticed that this was you first post, Welcome to the boards.

Welcome. I agree with the oe plugs and wires. Discs in the front and disc/drum combo in rear. Disc for braking and drum for e brake. I'd go with decent rotors, not cheap but not top of the line either unless you'll be towing huge weight.

delco 41-110's like previously stated, and delco wires. the wires will be either 9748gg or hh depending on the coil you have. Round coils are gg and square ones are hh. As for brakes and rotors I run autozone's severe duty brakes and have had good experiences. Rotors, just don't buy the cheap ones, any mid grade or better will do.

What's the difference between the two types of wires? I didn't think there was any difference based on coils. Or, perhaps I should ask what's the difference between the coils? Which coils were used with what options? 5.3 vs 6.0 or 2wd vs 4wd? I'm just curious because this is the first I've heard of this. Thanks for any info.

Welcome Ladywolf! Agree with others on OEM plugs, for brake pads, I've used Centric Posi Quiet on several vehicles and love em.

Both coils are used in all applications. One the spark plug wire connects on the bottom gg and the other one the wire has to travel over some of the coil hh. The hh wires are slightly longer. The coils are made by two different companies, Delco and some other brand so it was hit or miss on what ones you have, depends on what was on the shelf when yours rolled off the line.
