You'll need to show current registration, proof of insurance, the title (if there is no lien holder) and pass emission and state inspection.

If I missed something I'm sure someone will chime in........

Can ya google "California DMV" or "California Vehicle Registration" and that should tell you for sure. I know that when I bought my 77 pickup a few years back I bought it in Indiana and registered it here in Mo and all I had to do was show the title, bill of sale, and proof of insurance I believe. Could be different for other states though.

it has to pass C.A.R.B. plus visual inspection if its not a " 50 state legal vehicle". not all vehicles are 50 state legal, as they dont all have the same emissions laws. they are getting better though. my brother lives in indiana and he doesnt even have to do emissions, hes about 30 mins from jasper

It also depends on age of vehicle when it comes to emissions. In Mo they don't care about emissions on my 77 so I can pretty much do whatever I want but on my newer vehicles they check everything! I know that Ca is more strict, though.
