Hi all, I'm looking to paint my yukon from red to black how hard is it to cover the red? My clear is toast every time it rains here a little more bubbles and peels off. And what's the best procedure to go about painting it. I know how to do bondo work just need a little more on how to sand and sand the primer and paint and prepping the clear and a good paint to use. I either want gloss black or matte black

That is a really interesting article that explains most of what I'm looking for minus the fact that I have major clear coat peeling and some paint missing completely but not that much a few small spots. What's the best procedure with something in this shape just to make it look a lot better I'm not shooting for show quality just a nice paint job.

Personally I think if you want to do it right you will need to strip it to the bare metal that's the only way to do it right

Okay I have thought it over and going back with the victory red seems to be the best idea. So what would my process be strip to bare metal. Is the any easier way than sanding that will not warp the metal and if so after that what is next self etching primer?

You can use a chemical stripper just make sure it's for automotive paint as the stripper works by removing the bonding process and then yes use an etching primer

would sanding the bare metal be of best interest to do before primer? and would any lightweight body filler need to be on bare metal for the body work? after self etching primer would it be best to use a coat of another type of primer like filler primer?
