Hello, first post here, nice looking forums.

I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, my gas gauge reads different levels every time I start it. From some other threads I found it sounds like the sender unit is the likely culprit. So that is what I'm plannin on replacing. The tech at the dealer says I should replace the fuel pump unit along with the sensor. Posting this here to get additional input on whether I need to replace my fuel pump with the sender or if I can safely correct the problem just by replacing the sender.

Thanks,
Ryan

Usually the sender sits on top of the fuel pump assembly. I think you will have to purchase the whole unit.

This is a very common problem on all our trucks and yes you are better off getting the whole unit.
You can buy the part online for a lot cheaper than the dealer will charge you.

it's funny that most people start to join this forum with a problem they are having with their truck. LOL!

I had this same problem when i bought my tahoe. Drove around for awhile watching the gas gauge move from e to f to 1/2 to just going crazy. I replaced it, the fuel pump and sender was all in one for $320. AC delco from xl parts. Now it works fine, no problems at all. Do it and you will enjoy it, b/c you will finally know how much gas is in it..
