Since the left rear shock is leaking fluid, now is the time to get rid of OEM shocks. Will buy Bilstein 5100s but not sure which spring to use to replace OEM springs. Will pull a 4000# boat/trailer about 10 miles 4 or 5 times a year, perhaps 150# tongue weight. That's it. Want firm, predictable ride, not harsh and not soft. Z71s? Bilsteins? If anyone has some part numbers that would be appreciated.

Look up at Rock Auto for the Moog progressive rate springs. They get stiffer as more load is applied and soften up to normal ride when unloaded. I would stick with the Bilstein shocks. For some stupid ass reason they don't sell Bilstein at Rock Auto.

I contacted Rock Auto and the guy I talked to didn't know what a variable rate spring was. I looked on Moog's web site and think I'll have to call them on Monday since they didn't show a variable rate spring for the Yukon. Would you happen to have the Moog part number?

Also, the Bilstein 5100s seem to be used on the Yukons that are lifted. I just want to maintain the normal ride right. Would I go to a different Bilstein?
thanks
Jim

I believe the Bilstein 4600 is good too. I will look at Rock Auto for the springs. You can use the MOOG heavy duty springs but that ride may be firm all the time. Or you can use MOOG regular springs and you should feel a difference simply because of being new. The MOOG variable rate spring is called a Cargo Coil spring. Call MOOG at 1-800-325-8886 tech support to talk to them about variable rate or cargo coil springs.

I'll tell you now the moog standard duty are really soft. I lost two inches in height in the rear. Had to use spacers to get it back. And rides like shit when loaded with 6 adult passengers and luggage. I'm looking into a airlift 1000 to compliment the soft springs when loaded. For every day use they ride great

5100s do offer a 0-2" lift application for stock vehicles. I just ordered 4 5100s and blistein springs for my burb. I'll probably have to do an airlift 1000 on it too.
