I know some have questioned how they are in winter
Well I've got 1200 Miles on my 2015i GMC Yukon Denali
and they have beem in all kinds of snow and slush with temps from 40 to -18 and I haven't had any problems at all
have gone to the car wash and came home when it got to -10 and they worked great every time
Hope that I don't have problems but they seem to work great so far

Do they keep clean even when driving in the winter crap? Biggest gripe with the boards on our Durango is that they get really dirty and you get dirty by brushing up against them.

Also, how does the button on the dash work? Can you keep them up or down all times?

They get dirty but as long as you don't rub up against them they don't get you dirty
There is a button you can push to keep them out or have them retract
I've gone thru the car wash with them im in both positions and they get clean either way
so I leave them in-less chance of something getting caught on them
The only trouble I have had with a car wash was when they got in the back seat to clean it and stepped on my snowbush and broke off the ice scraper end off it

Had them on my '15 Denali and now on my Tahoe. It takes a lot of crap to get them to stick. They've held up great this winter.

Button is one of 4 in a cluster to the left of the steering wheel. I have them and love them. They don't get me dirty when i get in or out and so far 12000 plus mile have had zero issues with them other then them being awesome! 12 degrees here in NY to and my door handles were frozen but the running boards slide out as designed.. :) Its one of my favorite options on the truck!

Can someone measure the height of the extended step from the ground? I'm trying to see if it would be easier for my 5 year old to climb up.

It has already been measured. Look in this post under Exterior, "Front mud guards that work with Retractable boards".
