I've recently started looking at retreaded tires because of the difference in cost, does any one have any pros or cons about running retreads?

Just like everything else some ppl have good things to say and some have bad things to say..
from the 10 mins I looked into this. They "seem" to be ok to use.
Me personaly. NOWAY! But then again, some of our tires we buy have been sitting on a shelf for years drying out.
Forgot where I read about it, but there is a code on the tire that says when it was made, and like everything else tires have a shelf life. They do go bad sitting in that warehouse.

I wouldn't use them. I know big rigs use them all the time since those huge tires are pretty expensive. And I see big rigs have blowouts and thrown belts on the highway ALL THE TIME. Everywhere you look you see the tire tread from some tractor trailer alongside the interstate. Now would you want tires like that on your daily driver? To me its worth the extra money to buy new tires. My life, and my kids lives are not worth risking to save a few bucks. If that tread decides to seperate from your tire while you are driving your big SUV down the highway at 75-80mph, god help you and hope you dont flip that thing.

Big Rigs aren't allowed to use them on steer tires.

even if you don't flip it, or somehow don't loose control, at 80mph theres a chance that tire is going to destroy the side of your ride...
