Does anyone have any tips on retrofitting a 2nd row bench seat in place of captain chairs? I've been told by the dealer that it isn't possible, but have seen people mention it online. Not sure how to go about making sure I find the right bench seat that will fit our 2006 Tahoe.

From what I've read they are a direct change. Someone will chime in and give a definitive answer, but I'm pretty sure you take the captains chairs out and stick a bench in and your done.

Worst case senario is just put new holes in the floor and patch up the old ones. But you would need to thread the holes if it needs to be done

They're tan leather and we'd like to match it, if possible. :) I'm bummed they're not the same as yours, that would have been too easy!

I would expect the bolt holes to line up. GM builds the cabs to be modular. I just added a third row to my Yukon with no issues, the bolt holes and nuts were there.

A few tips: If you want it to match, get the VIN of the donor car and your VIN, then call the dealer. They can look up the trim code and verify they are the same. Dont just go by "gray" or "pewter" or you will never get the color and stitching to match. Also, If you need new bolts make sure you use Grade 10.9 bolts for safety reasons.

It should be a direct swap. I have a tan bench seat in my 03 that I would really like to swap for captains chairs if your interested, just don't know how far away you are.

A Tahoe can trade with another Tahoe or Yukon (NOT XL).

A Suburban can trade with another Suburban or Yukon XL.

Last night I traded my 60/40 bench seats for some Captain chairs. I have a Yukon XL and the guy had a Suburban. EVERYTHING bolted up the same way. It's 8 bolts and all you need it a deep socket think its 7/8 or 3/4 I forgot, an extension, and a medium ratchet. Took me literally 10 minutes first time.

If your looking for someone to trade with go to cargurus.com and you will find someone. Just have to wait if you want it locally, but I was willing to drive 6 hours to trade someone.

GL. If you need any help/advice send me a pm. I'll be more than glad to walk you through it and can take pictures of the bolts.

Antonio.
