Reverse lights cause draw

Hey everybody here's the thing. When I put it in reverse the lights don't come on and the amp gauge reads 9 or real close to red. They worked a week ago and now kaboom nothing. I checked the fuse and removed the bulbs just to be safe but i'm not sure where I should start. The trans? The rear section of wiring? Thanks in advance

you can start from the rear bulbs and work you way forward thru the harnesses till you find voltage. at that point you would have crossed the fault.

it does sound like it is the switch body or down stream if it only happens when in reverse.

Yeah, only in reverse. I saw a thread that mentioned the circuit board in the tail lights. Is it common for that to short out or does it just go bad and nothing works? I'm going to get a dvm later today so I can finally get some useful info. Thanks for the help SunlitComet
