Trying to diagnose several upper valvetrain 'ticks' on a 1996 Tahoe w/ 5.7 L engine. I figure it's stuck valves...
1) Stethescope to pinpoint the area
2) Remove valve covers to see if I have loose rockers OR bent pushrods
3) With covers off, make sure the oil is getting to the right areas
4). Try SEAFOAM to see if they will loosen
5) If all else fails, buy a used 350 (as they are slightly cheaper than buying new roller lifters)

Sound right? Anything else I can try and find?

just reread your post. I would lean more towards the pushrods or rocker arms. Had both happen at different times. bad injectors could cause a ticking sound too, may be exhaust manifold gasket.
