So the original OEM stereo is finally just a waste of space in my dashboard, which sucks because I love to listen to tunes, I love blasting said tunes as well. Now I have a quiet ride to and from work, unless I open the window and hear jackhammers, big-rigs, traffic, etc. Just a couple weeks ago too, I blew my driver door speaker. I wanted to upgrade eventually anyways, but now I need to do it sooner.

Anyways, I need a sound system overhaul now and I'm going to start with the head unit. I used to have an Alpine head unit in my old ride and was very happy with that, but I'm kinda of out of the loop these days with car audio.

Here's what I'm looking to do (in order)

-New headunit, single DIN (something with USB and mini-jack auxiliary)
-New door speakers and 4x10s (or something better that would fit with an adaptor)
-Amplifier to power these speakers.
Sidenote: I don't plan on throwing any subs in there, but I do want some speakers with decent bass response, something clear, clean, just something really nice, you know?

What do you all recommend? Any insight is much appreciated.

Yeah, $250-350 is about the most I'm looking to spend on a head unit. I'm not interested in navigation or screens for now. A single DIN unit with great quality and features will work for me. I couldn't really find much info about the MVH-3200. I found the MVH-8200 if that's what you meant. Seems like a nice unit! I'll look further into that.

I wouldn't spend over $150 on a head unit.

Buy some good component speakers. I've heard Pioneer Premier components in a car before and they got so loud...

Also I suggest buying 1 10 or 12" sub just to round out the sound.

I could put together a whole system for you for $500 but honestly you just have to look around, it's all in what you want.

And it's not an absolute necessity or anything but a Cd player would be nice too in case my passengers have a CD they want to listen to.

Sorry brandon, was typing out a post when you posted. I've so far found some decent units for around $150. Subs would be nice, but I need my space as I do fold my seats down every so often for hauling or sleeping in on camping trips, so I can't have a sub-box occupying the cargo area. I don't have the money for custom sub enclosures and I don't want to cut out the factory trim in the cargo area either for some subs. I don't exactly live in the safest city either, so I don't wanna give anybody a reason to snoop around my truck. So for now I'm just looking to replace all my door speakers and the rear ceiling speakers with something nice, probably a component setup for the front doors. I'd like a decent amp or two to power the six speakers, that can be hidden away and not interfer with my space and seat foldability.

Here's a quick update :

My stereo is working now. My theory is that my driver door woofer had partially blown as well as the driver side rear deck speaker, causing excessive draw from my stereo tweaking it out. Once they completely blew (as in, no longer making sound or functioning in way) my stereo started working just fine. Either way, my passion for music requires a better stereo system, so the head unit will be upgraded anyways.

Anyways, I still have not purchased the head unit or speakers. Aiming for this Friday to get some new audio. I have made my choices as far as front door speakers and a head unit goes. Will update as everything falls into place.

My 99 came with a JVC head unit that has USB Ipod control and aux in. Has 30 different colors and SUB or rear out, plus a 4x45 built in amp. When I googled it, it seems it's only $150.
This pic doesn't show much, but if you want a pic with the unit on, I can take one.

Thank for the input man! I can see pretty good with the pic you posted. I'll look into the JVCs before I make my final decision.

Pioneer or Alpine for the head-unit. They come with alot of options such as the USB for Ipods, and CD player. As for door speakers, http://www.crutchfield.com is your best bet to find something that works. If you can't find it on their website then give them a call and they can help you. They have great customer service!
