I just bought my '95 Yukon and had new coolant put in it and the radiator replaced today. I've had it for ~ 1 week and noticed it gets up to running temp fairly quick, will go just over the 210 mark then drop and stay between 200-210 all the time (did this before and after taking it to the shop). Is my thermostat bad or is this what temp a 195* t-stat will get to before opening?

Mine never runs that hot, is the fan working? It could be a bad thermostat, its quite common for them to not work right out of the box. Try removing it and placing it in a pot of water, heat to 195ish and see if it opens.

If I let mine warm up for a bit then drive nicely, it goes up to just short of 210 and stays there, but if I hit highway speeds pretty fast before it has a chance to warm up and it'll go a fair distance past 210 before going down to just below 210. From what you describe yours is perfectly normal.

unknown at this time.
you thermo is normal. just leave it. you have some coolant hot in the block and cool in the radiator. once it open it will mix itself and steady out.

Thanks for the replies, good to know my Yukon is normal. It just worried me a bit because all the other vehicles I've owned ran 180-190 all the time, not that just above 200 is that much more but I'm not used to it.

A lot of new cars these days (spanning way back to the late '80s) have what I call "idiot light gauges." They do a predetermined swing from cold to operating temp then never move from that spot unless something bad happens, like your engine is overheating or the oil ran out. Ford trucks are all like that. GM is one of the few manufacturers that actually put working gauges in their cars.
