rust on door weatherstriping channel

Noticed a couple of rust stain spots just below the door weather-stripping. Pulling the weather-stripping back I can see what looks like the metal attachment point is pretty well rusted on the front and rear door. The very front and very back of the channel is completely rusted, haven't checked in the middle (b-pillar).

I don't see any threads on this but wondering if anyone has tried replacing the channel that holds the weather-stripping?

My other option is to try the POR-15 and hope there's enough metal left to keep the weather-stripping in place.

One thing to add then I'll let the thread die if no responses. The Yukon sat under a cloth cover outside for about 5 years and was rarely driven. I wonder if that kept the rain water trapped which is why no one else has had to repair this?
