Rust

Hello All, I have recently acquired a 2007 Tahoe as described in my intro thread here: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/new-guy-from-va.74975/

Unfortunately it has been a northern car it's entire life and it has developed some rust. Most affected areas were edges of the rear doors. One I got professionally fixed and the other one I fixed myself (sand, bondo, primer, paint, etc...). Other minor areas that I have also addressed were very front part of the hood where minor rust has developed due to rock chips etc.

My question to the guys that have had similar experience with rust is, if you fixed it how long did it last, or did it ever come back?

I know there are many factors involved here, but I am trying to make a smart decision whether it's worth keeping the car for 2-3 years or trading in earlier given the risk and wanted to hear some of your thoughts.

If it's rusting your never going to fix it without replacing the metal, plain and simple. Plastic body filler holds moisture too, avoid that at all costs. Your best bet is to spot blast the spot and use POR15 or RustEncapsulator from Eastwood. That said, I fixed my front fenders and doors three years ago and it's back. Doors only lasted about a year; the rust gets in behind where they fold the panel and it's done, you can't effectively fix that.

My 07 has 260k miles up Upstate NY living....it sucks.
