Hello All,

Looking for some guidance. I noticed a clicking noise from the rear of the Tahoe that starts at around 10mph and seems to stay. It definitley seems related to the wheel rotation as the more speed, the greater the frequency. I've done quite abit of searching and found many possible causes. I thought I pulled out all the pebbles from the tires, but will re-examne tonight when I get home.

I think it may be the backing plate making contact with the rotor. I know it is very common for the backing plates to rust/rot out. I think the guy who did the brakes mentioned that when I had the rear pads/rotors replaced.

If I need to replace the backing plate, I kow they sell single as well as 2 piece units. My question is, what is the purpose of the backing plates and are they absolutley required?

Thank you in advance!

They need to be there because they hold the parking brake cable.

When this happened to me I was at 7/11 and as a temporary fix I bent the
rusted part that was touching the rotor back and forth until it broke off.

If I remember correctly there are only four bolts that hold it and the parking break
on after you remove the rotor. The hard part is getting the cable off of the old plate
and putting it on the new one. You have to loosen the cable which is right under the drivers rear door.
