So I finally have saved enough dough to get the Yukon going again after it spun a bearing and began making a racket :emotions133:
I was convinced I was going to turn the original 5.7 into a mild 383 with a budget of $1500-2000. I was planning on the teardown to happen this weekend but I ran into a local advertisement of an LS 6.0 for 1300 and decided to check it out. Long story short, I ended up buying a complete, running '99 2500 Silverado pickup after I test drove it and verified the engine was strong and ran well. Paid the dude 1100 and drove it home about 50 mi and it behaved beautifully, ballsy and the tranny shifted nicely. Even though the PO could not furnish me a title, which was lost according to him, rattle can paint job, worn tires, dirty/torn interior, I believe I scored. Especially since I later found out it has a 4L80E behind the LS! A slight problem I found is that no one could verify mileage since the display on the dash is blank/dark but the PO swore to me it has no more that 120000mi on the clock, and also the front drive shaft is missing. Well then, I have quite a project on my hands now, and wouldn't ask no one but you knowledgeable guys on this forum for advice on this swap. My plan is to keep the set up reliable, I would like some upgrades done but don't want to tear into the 6.0, just want to R&R and go. I will surely pressure wash it and replace all gaskets and seals that are easily accessible, but I want to leave it alone for the most part. I got some homework to do with the harness and PCM swap as well and am hoping to keep the original instument panel untouched if possible. I'm guessing there's exhaust work due, maybe some headers will be thrown in the mix, not sure about fuel delivery either. Ladies and Gents, what do you have for the 'meizter?? :)

Thanks man, I have been giving this extensive thought and am beginning to lean towards getting the 5.7 original redone and getting the 'nali going, like I had planned in the beginning. In the mean time turning the LQ4 into a 550+hp plant with some L92/LS3 cylinder heads. This of course would be a longer term project, hence getting the 5.7 going for now...

I've run sbc power in a ton of vehicles, and I'm finally ready to jump ship. As venerable as l31 is, I can't see dumping 3k into one when I can put out the same armor of power from a stock 6.0

I hear ya, and I don't plan to dump no $3K on the 5.7, gonna rebuild it and run it while the 6.0 gets built...

I agree that the 6.0 is the most power for the least effort.
I kinda like my 5.3 as it is 300 hp as opposed to the 200 hp throttle body 350 and fuel mileage just over 17 mpg on the highway.
