I just bought a 1996 tahoe 1500. It seems to be a vehicle with a lot of tinkering done to it in the past. When you try and start it, nothing happens. It wont turn over or anything but the dash does light up and everything seems to be fine. In order to get it to turn over you need to lock and unlock the doors a couple times. I asked the previous owner and he said it was some kind of security feature. It seems like more of a problem than a feature. Any ideas on what causes this? and if so how to fix it.

Mine does the same (have not done the door lock deal) and I have not sat down and gone through as to why. I do believe that it has to do with the factory security which can be disabled with tune software, am I correct Sun?
Anyways, mine was like this when I bought my truck and the PO had run a wire from the relay under hood to a metal brace under the dash which I hold while turning the key, letting go when truck starts. I'm am not saying best way, just how mine is started.

I had the same kind of issue before, it had me thinking it was the fuel pump or ignition, but mine at first would turn over, begin to start then shut down, it would turn over and over, then got to where it wouldn't do anything, had to take it to a shop and have them make the security module inside the steering column relearn the truck code before it would run again...

and the security/evo module should be located farther right under radio/hvac shelving.
