See my gas leak! Anyone have this problem before?

Looking for advice before I crawl under the Yukon and see went bad. You can say my truck has a slight fuel leak, and you'd be wrong. It has a massive fuel leak. see here:

I've researched and found a couple people with what sounds to be the exact same problem. 1 - slight smell of gas for a few days but no sign of gas anywhere. 2 - harder to start... have to crank it a bit. 3 - eventual gas leak erupts and appears to be on top of tank pouring everywhere.

I'm hoping it's something cheap like a fuel line but I'll bet it's something a bit more expensive. Anyone else had this before? what was the solution. I'll be out of town for a few days and can investigate when I get back.

Hopefully your lucky and it's just a loose connection at your fuel filter. Hard to tell based on the quick video.

I've read that the filter is inside the tank on '04s.

I am going to say it's your fuel line just above and behind the abs unit. Hard to get too but the line Rots there. I had mine go in the winter and replaced with dorman stainless.

Fuel filter is in line on flex fuel tahoes/yukons easiest way to tell is look for the 8th digit in the vin code to be a "Z" I believe that is what signifies you have a flex fuel truck. Otherwise it is in the tank.

If you do have a flex fuel truck and the leak is under the drivers seat then its the filter. You said it looked like it was coming from the top of the tank so if thats the case its easiest to drop the tank and have a look

It looks to me that its around the fuel filter, pretty far forward. Metal lines could have rusted through, rubber lines could have dry rotted, filter could have rusted through....If it was coming out of the tank, it would have to be the lines coming off the fuel pump assembly.

Well, off to the motherland for a week, then the East coast. It'll have to wait until my return. I don't have a flex fuel engine so I'm going to lay my money on the lines since #1taho has had his go.

From the volume of fuel in the video, it's most likely a leak at the fuel supply line at the pump assembly. The connector may have broken and backed off a bit.

I had this same issue a few years back. thought it was the lines leaking. so I drained the tank, and pulled the tank out, turns out the top of the fuel pump assembly had a rusted supply line. literally the steel elbox from the pump, and where it connects to the fuel line to the motor. only way to fix was replace whole fuel pump assembly

also, I found out my 05,didnt have a fuel filter, only a in tank. and it has plastic fuel lines from tank to fire wall.

UPDATE:

You guys were right. There's a lot of rust under there and the piping rusted away and a hole formed and was spraying gas right at the electrical connector. See the photo

As mentioned by Steve, the pump, while still working, had to be replaced along with a tank seal and ring. I bought the Bosch unit from Rockauto bringing the bill up to about $200. A couple things to note, the Bosch unit came with a tank seal even though neither description nor the photos indicated this. I informed RA about this and they refunded the cost of the seal and said they'd update the description. The other thing, the Bosch unit was a little different than the 2004 stock unit. The part that sits just inside the lip of the tank was a bit larger diameter and it wouldn't go in. In feeling the ID of the tank hole it felt like it had a ridge. I carefully trimmed that off with a razor blade (making sure nothing fell into the tank) and it fit fine.

Getting the lines out of the disconnects proved to be a challenge that I won on 2 of the 3 connections. The middle line (return?) was impossible to get out, so I bought a Dorman nylon fuel connector repair kit at Autozone (http://www.autozone.com/fuel-delivery/fuel-line-connector/dorman-fuel-line-connector/238626_0_0/).

At the end of the project I spent about $260 which includes a pair of mechanix gloves, some shop towels and a new wiper blade for my Caprice.
